Washington State Minimum Auto Liability Limits

What are the minimum liability limits required for an Auto Policy? FM_Claims.jpg

In Washington State the minimum automobile liability limits are $25k per person, $50k per occurrence for bodily injury and $10k for property damage liability. You are responsible for any amount that exceeds your liability limits in an at-fault accident. Many people buy low limits when they are young and fail to review their liability limit coverage in relation to personal assets with liability limits as life changes and inflation decreases the value of coverage over time. Carrying low limits could put your personal assets, such as your house in jeopardy if you were involved in a serious at-fault accident.

Whether you live in Edmonds, Mukilteo, or any where else in South Snohomish County there is a good chance that you could get into an accident with a vehicle with a value over $10,000. The costs of increasing your property damage liability coverage by $25,000 or even $50,000 commonly costs less than a dollar a month. Here is a perfect example to illustrate this point; you are in an at-fault accident and total out a $60,000 SUV, but only have $50,000 of property liability protection. Your insurance company will pay every penny up to $50,000, but you will be on the hook for the remaining $10,000. Cascadia Agency strongly suggests every motorist carry at least $100,000 of property damage liability on their policy.

Damage covered by homeowner's Insurance

FM_Home_Edmonds.jpgWill the damage to my home be covered by insurance?

Most homeowner’s insurance policies provide broad coverage, but many perils are often excluded including; water damage from flood, earthquake, settling, cracking, bulging, vapor or chemical contamination, corrosion, mold, rot, and insect damage. Many people mistakenly believe that any damage to their home will be covered by insurance. Protect the investment in your home; understand your policy and prevent avoidable losses by contacting your agent when you have questions.

Our agency‘s philosophy is to encourage each household to review their policy once a year to ensure coverage stays current with the needs of each client.  During this review we try to go over common perils that are excluded such as earthquake and flood as well as any other question the client may have.
